Development Academy U-16 playoffs scenarios


The younger age bracket at the Development Academy playoffs is still wide open after two games. Out of the 32 teams at the event, only nine have been mathematically eliminated before Tuesday's finale. Thus, almost every game Tuesday morning could be for a spot at Finals Week in Milwaukee from July 9-16. Here is a breakdown of the potential scenarios for which teams could book their trip to Wisconsin.

Empire United v. Crew Soccer Academy, Field 12
Seattle Sounders v. D.C. United, Field 9
Standings:
Sounders 6 pts. +4
Empire United 3 pts +2
Crew 3 pts 0
D.C. United 0 pts -6

Scenarios:
Seattle advance with win or draw. Could advance with 1-goal loss unless Empire United win by more than 2 goals. Or Crew win by more than 4 goals.
Empire United advance with win and Seattle loss combined with margin of victory to overtake Seattle.
Crew advance with win and Seattle loss combined with margin of victory to overtake Seattle.
D.C. United is eliminated.

Vardar advance with win by 4 goals or more and Concorde Fire draw.

Houston advance with win by 2 or more goals.
IMG advance with LAG loss and a greater than 2 goal difference over Houston final tally
Sporting KC is eliminated.

Scenarios:
Solar advance with win and maintain goal difference advantage over RSC.
RSC advance with win and scoring two more goals than Solar, if both teams win. If RSC only scores one more goal than Solar, the two teams would settle the tiebreaker on PKs.
FC Delco advance with win and RSC draw or loss.
De Anza Force is eliminated.

North Meck advance with win and Chicago Fire loss or draw. Could advance with win and Chicago Fire win, if North Meck have maintain advantage in goals scored and level on goal difference.
Chicago Fire advance with win and North Meck draw or loss. Also, could advance with North Meck win if Fire win by greater margin. If North Meck win by same margin, Chicago Fire needs to score one or more additional goal(s) than the North Carolina club to advance.
SCU is eliminated.
Group 8:

The tiebreakers for Development Academy Regulations Handbook:
a) greatest number of points obtained in all Playoff games; b) greatest goal difference in all Playoff games; c) greatest number of goals scored in all Playoff games.
If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria, their rankings will be determined as follows:
d) greatest number of points obtained in the Playoff games between the teams concerned; e) greatest goal difference resulting from the Playoff games between the teams concerned; f) greater number of goals scored in the Playoff games between the teams concerned; g) penalty kicks if only two teams are still equal; h) drawing of lots by the Academy Staff if three or more teams are still equal.
